If you needed any reminder of what made Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson, go watch “This is It.” The movie, produced from raw footage of practices and rehearsals, sheds a rare glimpse on Michael’s brilliance, strive for perfection, and love of his fans.
The movie created a world wide concert tour for Michael and a final curtain call. In it, we get to witness Michael’s direction and ability to gently motivate people to join his level of performance.
When rehearsing for “The way you make me feel” he teaches his band how to build anticipation to a crescnedo. After a few trys, Michael pleads for them to “…let it simmer.” And with those words Michael imparts pearls of wisdom–for the bandmembers and to us, the audience.
At the end of a long day of rehearsals, the whole team gathers around and Michael reminds everyone why they’re practicing so hard: “To teach them [the fans] how to love again.”
When MJ died I wrote: “He was planning a huge concert series in London. Turns out he was just practicing for his debut with God.”
RIP Michael and thanks for the lessons.
Our t-shirt on So you think you can dance (again!!)
Thursday, October 8th, 2009We just got an email from a fan saying they saw one of our guys shirts on the TV show “So you think you can dance” last night. We’re finding out more details–like which guy wore it, which t-shirt it was and whether or not he can do the moonwalk.
The season started less than a month ago, and already two dancers have worn our t-shirts. (Check out the other t-shirt on so you think you can dance). I’m not sure what it is, but it looks like there’s a direct correlation between being a good dancer and wearing Crooked Monkey’s graphic t-shirts.
Maybe we should come out with a commercial, where Michael Jackson is trying, trying to dance. But he just can’t get the rhythm, the timing, the moves right. He throws on one of our t-shirts, and bam, he’s moon walking and side walking all over the Apollo theatre. How should this commerical end?
Michael Jackson Birthday Bash

In celebration of Michael Jackson’s 51st birthday, my roommates and I are throwing a “Michael Jackson Birthday Bash.” We sent out the invite over a month ago to ensure that there’s going to be no excuses. It’ll be the best party ever thrown at the Taft Suite.
My brother, AKA DJ Shnooms, got me the entire catalog of Michael Jackson songs–all 450 of them. Everything from the Jackson 5 to the Jacksons to his solo years. I’ve got the pleasure of listening to it now and separating it into playlists. I’ll post the playlist for you when I’m done.
There’s so much awesome Michael that most people didn’t even know exists. This party is going to be full of, “Michael Jackson sings that song.”
Everyone’s getting excited for their outfits. Marielle will be creating a whole new wardrobe–she’s picking up some penny loafers, big white socks–and sprinkling them with some glitter–Black short pants, a white MJ shirt, and a fedora on top.
We’ve even got Alex Feder, of the XYZ affair, coming down from the Big NYC.

We’ve really appreciated all the love for our MJ shirts. It’s meant a lot to us because of how meaningful these are to C monkey.
We’ve gotten a ton of emails and a good amount of bloggers writing about our Michael Jackson T-shirts.

This week’s song of the week is a remix of the Jackson 5 “I want you back” song by Ztrip. The video reminds us of how cute, innocent and adorable Michael was before the media ripped into him.

The other day we wrote about the process of producing Michael Jackson tees. Since we loved him so much, we wanted to make sure that we were making the best MJ shirts out there–the ones that would honor Michael the most.

They are all printed on Unisex American Apparel Deep V neck t-shirts. For guys, you should order the size you normally order. But for girls, you should order one size lower–if you usually order a Small, then get an XS (b/c they’re unisex). If you usually order a medium shirt, then order a Small Unisex v neck. Hope that makes sense!

From ABC to Thriller to Bad to Black and White, Michael produced wholly different types of music–and it was all awesome. Here’s a remix we found to “Bad” by David Guetta. The video is great cause its a medley of Michael’s moves. Enjoy.
Mourning Michael

Since news broke of Michael’s passing I have been teary eyed and at a loss for words. I never got to see him in concert but watched him on TV whenever I got a chance. I did have the pleasure of videotaping his Madison Square Garden Concert, and watching it over and over again. I put my favorite video of his below, Smooth Criminal.
He loved his fans more than anything else in the world. That kind of mutual love–between an icon and his fans–is so rare. But now we are left to mourn alone.
He was planning a huge concert series in London. Turns out he was just practicing for his debut with God.
RIP Michael.
