rIp Steve Jobs

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Steve Jobs was only 56 and he gave us so much.  More than just the products he created, Jobs ushered in a revolution in how we see, use, and think about technology.

I don’t own a single Apple product but am saddened by the loss and thankful for his genius.  I bet he’s upstairs, already redesigning and rethinking what it means to be in heaven.

Let it Simmer: The Michael Jackson Story

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

If you needed any reminder of what made Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson, go watch “This is It.” The movie, produced from raw footage of practices and rehearsals, sheds a rare glimpse on Michael’s brilliance, strive for perfection, and love of his fans.

The movie created a world wide concert tour for Michael and a final curtain call. In it, we get to witness Michael’s direction and ability to gently motivate people to join his level of performance.
When rehearsing for “The way you make me feel” he teaches his band how to build anticipation to a crescnedo. After a few trys, Michael pleads for them to “…let it simmer.” And with those words Michael imparts pearls of wisdom–for the bandmembers and to us, the audience.
At the end of a long day of rehearsals, the whole team gathers around and Michael reminds everyone why they’re practicing so hard: “To teach them [the fans] how to love again.”
When MJ died I wrote: “He was planning a huge concert series in London. Turns out he was just practicing for his debut with God.”
RIP Michael and thanks for the lessons.

Our Michael Jackson shirts are rated #1

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

We’ve really appreciated all the love for our MJ shirts. It’s meant a lot to us because of how meaningful these are to C monkey.

We’ve gotten a ton of emails and a good amount of bloggers writing about our Michael Jackson T-shirts.

I’m going to repost some of them here for you to see:

Jessica from Toronto wants us to sell to Toronto so she can pick up an MJ shirt:
“I would love to be able to buy one of your MJ shirts if you did relocate to Toronto. Great site though, keep it up, loving the shirts!”

Bloggers:

-My favorite post came from Karen Watkins of the MoCoScene. She read our blog post, Mourning Michael and wrote:
“Micha Weinblatt says in his company blog June 26, ‘Since news broke of Michael’s passing I have been teary eyed and at a loss for words.’ But not for ideas. The master of the wicked double entendre quickly came up with four simple, hip T-shirts in homage to the great one – with V-necks, a first. Straightforward sentiment from Crooked Monkey, another first and an aesthetic winner.”

-Coty Gonzales did a top 10 of MJ shirts. Our I heart MJ shirt was # 1! Thanks.

-Kelsi Smith from Dedicated Follower of Fashion called our Michael Jackson t-shirts “gems.”
She added that our Michael Jackson shirts are “stylish [and] a genuine tribute from a company that has always been influenced by Michael Jackson since their launch in 2007 (you can watch their monkey bust a groove and do the moonwalk here – click on the speaker).

-Northern Virginia Mag wrote:
“You know I’m a huge fan of locally-based crookedmonkey.com” And added: “I couldn’t be happier to let you all know about Crooked Monkey’s new shirts designed in honor of the music legend who, according to Jessica Kades, has long served as an inspiration to the company.”Dexie Wharton wrote that we were the first place she checked for MJ shirts.
They didn’t have them last week because as I found out yesterday from one the CM folks, they were making sure the shirts look perfect. I think you won’t be disappointed with what they came up with.”

Thanks everyone. Good work Jessica on contacting these blogs.
And go ahead and check them out for yourself. Our guys Michael Jackson t-shirts. Girls Michael Jackson T-shirts.

DJ Shnooms song of the week

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

We realize that since Michael Jackson’s passing every single one of our blog posts has been about the King of Pop. So why change a good thing?

This week’s song of the week is a remix of the Jackson 5 “I want you back” song by Ztrip. The video reminds us of how cute, innocent and adorable Michael was before the media ripped into him.

Don’t forget to check out our Guys Michael Jackson V neck T-shirts and Girls Michael Jackson V Neck t-shirts

Michael Jackson Tribute V Neck shirts

Monday, July 6th, 2009

The other day we wrote about the process of producing Michael Jackson tees. Since we loved him so much, we wanted to make sure that we were making the best MJ shirts out there–the ones that would honor Michael the most.

We’ve done it. Go check out our Michael Jackson girls shirts and our MJ guys shirts. For the first time ever, we’ve printed them on V-necks. Let us know what you think. These shirts mean a lot to us.

We created 4 guys and 4 girls Michael Jackson Shirts.

They are all printed on Unisex American Apparel Deep V neck t-shirts. For guys, you should order the size you normally order. But for girls, you should order one size lower–if you usually order a Small, then get an XS (b/c they’re unisex). If you usually order a medium shirt, then order a Small Unisex v neck. Hope that makes sense!

DJ Shnooms song of the week

The great thing about Michael Jackson is that his songs transcended genres, generations and all other boundaries. From ABC to Thriller to Bad to Black and White, Michael produced wholly different types of music–and it was all awesome. Here’s a remix we found to “Bad” by David Guetta. The video is great cause its a medley of Michael’s moves. Enjoy.

Mourning Michael

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Since news broke of Michael’s passing I have been teary eyed and at a loss for words. I never got to see him in concert but watched him on TV whenever I got a chance. I did have the pleasure of videotaping his Madison Square Garden Concert, and watching it over and over again. I put my favorite video of his below, Smooth Criminal.

He loved his fans more than anything else in the world. That kind of mutual love–between an icon and his fans–is so rare. But now we are left to mourn alone.

He was planning a huge concert series in London. Turns out he was just practicing for his debut with God.

RIP Michael.
