That’s How I roll Printing

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Well we just got a funny email from one of our customers. It brought something to our attention that I hadn’t looked at in years. Here’s what she writes:

“Hi,
This might be a silly question, but I just received the thats how I roll tshirt and the design on the front is printed crooked on the tshirt. Is that part of the ‘Crooked Monkey style, or should the design be straight on the t-shirt?”

We actually had to check the warehouse to see what she was talking about. And she’s right, the text is a bit crooked. But that’s on purpose! No one else had ever asked us about it, but it’s a valid point.

I also like that she gave us an out–because our name is Crooked Monkey, we’re allowed to produce Crooked shirts. But rest assured, if its printed crooked, it’s because we meant to, not because we’re trying to solidify our brand.

Our Michael Jackson shirts are rated #1

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

We’ve really appreciated all the love for our MJ shirts. It’s meant a lot to us because of how meaningful these are to C monkey.

We’ve gotten a ton of emails and a good amount of bloggers writing about our Michael Jackson T-shirts.

I’m going to repost some of them here for you to see:

Jessica from Toronto wants us to sell to Toronto so she can pick up an MJ shirt:
“I would love to be able to buy one of your MJ shirts if you did relocate to Toronto. Great site though, keep it up, loving the shirts!”

Bloggers:

-My favorite post came from Karen Watkins of the MoCoScene. She read our blog post, Mourning Michael and wrote:
“Micha Weinblatt says in his company blog June 26, ‘Since news broke of Michael’s passing I have been teary eyed and at a loss for words.’ But not for ideas. The master of the wicked double entendre quickly came up with four simple, hip T-shirts in homage to the great one – with V-necks, a first. Straightforward sentiment from Crooked Monkey, another first and an aesthetic winner.”

-Coty Gonzales did a top 10 of MJ shirts. Our I heart MJ shirt was # 1! Thanks.

-Kelsi Smith from Dedicated Follower of Fashion called our Michael Jackson t-shirts “gems.”
She added that our Michael Jackson shirts are “stylish [and] a genuine tribute from a company that has always been influenced by Michael Jackson since their launch in 2007 (you can watch their monkey bust a groove and do the moonwalk here – click on the speaker).

-Northern Virginia Mag wrote:
“You know I’m a huge fan of locally-based crookedmonkey.com” And added: “I couldn’t be happier to let you all know about Crooked Monkey’s new shirts designed in honor of the music legend who, according to Jessica Kades, has long served as an inspiration to the company.”Dexie Wharton wrote that we were the first place she checked for MJ shirts.
They didn’t have them last week because as I found out yesterday from one the CM folks, they were making sure the shirts look perfect. I think you won’t be disappointed with what they came up with.”

Thanks everyone. Good work Jessica on contacting these blogs.
And go ahead and check them out for yourself. Our guys Michael Jackson t-shirts. Girls Michael Jackson T-shirts.

Brilliant T-shirt Idea by San Francisco Pizzeria

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

A Pizza company in San Francisco took quotes from its 1 Star ratings on Yelp! and turned them into t-shirts that the employees wear.

One of the shirts just says, “This place sucks.”

What would happen if we printed shirts with our complaints?

Here’s a sampling of some of our most angry customers:

-Your shirt made me laugh so hard i almost died.
-Your shirt got me laid so many times i contracted some STDs.
-After buying your shirts, I became so popular that my phone bill ballooned and I now owe $250 to Verizon.
-Your shirts are so soft that I threw out my sheets and started sleeping in your shirts. But now I don’t have any sheets and I need to wash my shirt.

Moms can wear funny t-shirts too

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

We just got a very sweet email from a loyal customer of Crooked Monkey’s funny t-shirts, and we decided to share it with you all.

Amanda R. wrote:
“I LOVE my Pluto tee-shirt, and would love to buy extras for when it wears out. Any chance it will come out of retirement?”

Amanda really loves her shirt, and we love her for it. Since the shirt is retired, I’d suggest wearing it a little less often, and taking more pictures of you enjoying the shirt. Maybe even putting it away for your kids, so that they too can enjoy the wonders of funny t-shirts.

What’s the deal with retired t-shirts? We love every t-shirt we produce–our strict standards require a long vetting process (not unlike that of the Vice Presidential candidates)–but all good things must come to an end. And in the interest of remaining fresh and keeping our shirts unique, we retire shirts. If we never retired the shirt, then it would be mass produced. And that’s no fun.

GirlsTalkinSmack.com Diggs Crooked Monkey’s T-shirt Style

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Kim from GirlsTalkinSmack.com featured our shirts on her blog. She doesn’t usually write about t-shirt companies but she really liked us, and we really liked her.

Here’s what she had to say “I’ll admit, I’m not one who usually goes for t-shirts but I’m really liking this brand. Why? They have cute designs, witty slogans, and most importantly to me, good colors and graphics.”

Cool. She thought our Waking up is hard to do t-shirt is our coolest t-shirt.

Nice work Cara.

Best T-shirt Review ever written

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Paul over at Buy-tees.net wrote an amazing analysis of the Crooked Monkey brand. Drawing on pop-culture, social norms and egalitarianism, he applauded Crooked Monkey for offering girls a clothing line that “[gives] less aggravation in your life, if you want to save time on telling the guys you can’t stand or totally adore, where to go or what to do, CrookedMonkey.com can hook you up with the best fashion artillery for any great night out.”

I’d truly suggest reading the rest of the t-shirt review. To call it a review trivializes its grandeur so we’re going to call it an in-depth analysis of the brand.

Check out the funny girls tees, and funny guys tees, he was referring to.

Good work Emily.
