How Do I Know My T-Shirt Size?

Are you unsure about your t-shirt size? Well, It’s really not to hard to figure out. Keep reading and we’ll explain exactly  how to figure out your t shirt size in just minutes- and, help others find theirs!

First, take a T-shirt that fits you and place it flat on a table. Then, take a measurement across the chest on the front side of the shirt (A), and another measurement of the back of the shirt from the neck all the way to the bottom (B).

Check out the diagram below for an illustration of what were talking about:

Once you have your numbers, write them down and compare them to the following t-shirt size chart (figures are expressed in inches):

  S M L XL 2XL 3XL 4XL 5XL
Full Body Length 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35
Body Width 18 20 22 24 26 28 30 32

Pretty easy, right? Well… what if you aren’t purchasing t-shirts for only yourself, but for an entire event?  How do you decide how many sizes you need or how many of each size you should order?

A 10K race can have people of all different sizes, and one thing is for sure, one size does not fit all!

How to choose t-shirt sizes for large events?

More than half of consumers in America own promotional personalized t-shirts, which in their lifespan will generate an average of 2,500 impressions. This is why custom t-shirts are one of the best-valued promo items!

If you are hosting a large event where people of all different shapes and sizes are expected to attend-it may be difficult to choose how many t-shirts of each size you should have printed. From our experience at Crooked Monkey, we suggest following this chart:

Small 5%
Medium 20%
Large 30%
Extra Large 30%
2XL 10%
3XL 2.5%
4XL 2.5%

To give you an idea of size distribution- if your 10K race will have 1,000 runners, you should order about 50 small shirts, 200 medium, 300 large, 300 extra-large, 100 2XL, 25 3XL and 25 4XL.

However, if you have more detailed information about your expected audience, you would know better how to distribute t-shirt sizes.

Consider also that men’s and women’s sizing are not the same. An “adult” size t-shirt generally means men’s sizes. Women’s shirts usually have a taper at the waist for a more feminine silhouette while the men’s style has a boxier and larger shape.

At Crooked Monkey, we recommend ordering 80% of men’s shirts and 20% of women’s shirts, but of course, if your 10K race is a women’s event, the percentage will be different.

t shirt sizes for an event

It is very, VERY important for you to know that one size does not fit all. Also, the exact cut of a t-shirt will vary depending on the brand and style so we recommend you order samples of the sizes you need to get the perfect fit.

Preparing your promotional items in advance will guarantee that everything runs smoothly and you will be remembered for your professionalism.
